John Smith (°1983, Salt Lake City, United States) creates performances, drawings and mixed media artworks. By studying sign processes, signification and communication, Smith makes work that generates diverse meanings. Associations and meanings collide. Space becomes time and language becomes image.
His performances question the conditions of appearance of an image in the context of contemporary visual culture in which images, representations and ideas normally function. By questioning the concept of movement, he finds that movement reveals an inherent awkwardness, a humour that echoes our own vulnerabilities. The artist also considers movement as a metaphor for the ever-seeking man who experiences a continuous loss.

Here's an excerpt from a blog post that I recently wrote: "Negative or doubtful people can deter you from your goals, bring down your self esteem, and ruin your belief in yourself and your ability to achieve your goals. All it takes is a couple offhand comments about how you probably aren’t going to make it anyways, how it just isn’t going to work, and how no one else has done it so why should you be able to."
Like Else, I had a similar experience. I remember taking an art class in college where one of my classmates told me it wasn't possible to paint multiple palettes within such a small amount of space. With enough practce, I got it down. Keep up the hard work!
I remember an art class that I took in high school. One of my classmates always put me down and told me that I wasn't going to pass the class. I stayed determined to do my best and as it turns it out, I did end up passing the class. Thank you for sharing that point
Good point about avoiding negative thinking. I have found it really benefical to stay positive regardless of what obstacles come my way with my art.
Hey guys check out my latest works of art! You can also view some content that I wrote here: http://www.artistfreelancers.com/Designing-A-Portfolio.php
There is going to be an art show this weekend downtown at the convention center. I think you are more than qualified to submit some of your works!
Hey Bro, I got a chance to check out your works of art over the weekend! You've got a real eye for design. Impressive!
Nice job with the writing! I like the part where you encourage the reader to take time to design the portfolio before actually presenting it. Good stuff!
